The Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute in Utica New York will open a new exhibition 13 SEP 09 titled The Art and Life of James E. Freeman, 1808-1884: An American Painter in Italy.

“This first-ever retrospective on the fancy pictures and portraiture of James E. Freeman will remain on view through 17 JAN 10, and then travel to at least two other American museums during 2010.

“Independent art historians John F. McGuigan Jr. and Mary K. McGuigan are the exhibition’s guest curators and authors of the accompanying catalog. The extensive primary research incorporated into the catalog will make it a welcome addition to the literature on the 19th-century American grand tour, as well as the history of figural art in America.” RE: ArtMagick.
