American Society of Appraisers (ASA) personal property members are gathering for their annual conference this year at the Loews Hotel Vogue in Montreal. The itinerary is informative and educational. Appraisers from other societies welcome.

Thursday, Oct. 29

  • Breakfast buffet at hotel with a presentation by a major insurance company
  • Visit to McCord Museum with planned lectures on Montreal history, architecture and material culture and two curator guided lectures/tours on fine & decorative arts and textiles & costumes.
  • Lecture tour at the McCord on the William Notman photography archives
  • Wine and cheese reception at one of Montreal’s leading private galleries, followed by dinner at one of Montreal’s internationally acclaimed restaurants.

Friday, Oct. 30

  • Breakfast buffet at hotel
  • Montreal Musee de Beaux Arts with planned lectures and tours on Old Masters; Canadian Art; Contemporary Art; Contemporary Decorative Art (choice of three)
  • Buffet lunch in the private room of Museum Restaurant
  • A planned evening at Canadian Center for architecture with founder and president, Phyllis Lambert

Saturday, Oct. 31

  • Breakfast buffet at hotel
  • Musee d’Art Contemporain – lecture, tour
  • Lunch on your own
  • Afternoon joint multi-disciplinary panel seminar: Business Valuation applications for Personal Property, a panel discussion with BV and PP appraisers, lawyers; topics to include fractional ownership of personal property; the income approach to value; valuation of intellectual property and artistic copyright
  • Closing dinner at the hotel (it IS Halloween, so be on watch for masks/costumes) with featured speaker Marcel Brisebois, Chairman of the Canadian Cultural Property Export Review Board
