“Made” is a slang term used colloquially in the antiques trade to describe antiques that have been drastically altered from a lesser value form to a greater value form for the purpose of enhancing marketability.
Also, a reproduction made from scratch using antique materials, period tools, and period methods in order to achieve a product that appears to the layperson to be antique (at least 100 years old). These “made” pieces can be but are not always designed to deceive. When sufficient time is spent by hands of great skill directed by a mind that fully understands the nuances of aging and wear and with the intent to deceive, the end product is indistinguishable from the original.
